This is one of our favourite performances by these master musicians, led by Jesse Cook.   Set in an empty theater, the musican is taken away with his music and in his mind a stunning performance emerges, only to find that at the end it was all in his mind.  Such a cool theatrical way of presenting this concert.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6343H42j_YI Find our Books:   on Amazon Subscribe:   Brummet Media YouTube Channel   ~~~

Dave - the author - & musician

Dave - the author - & musician A professional drummer/percussionist and educator, Dave has collaborated on many songs that later led to him writing lyrics of his own. Most of his poems in this book were in fact initially written as song lyrics, thus the presence of repeating choruses though out.  Actually it was Dave who first sparked the idea for the Brummet’s to walk this path they tread today – he decided to take a writer’s course to learn what he might be able to do with his short stories that he has compiled over the years.  Most of those stories have remained unpublished to this day due to other projects taking precedence, but Dave plans to release some in the near future. His poem UFO Dream  is the theme of one of his soon-to-be novels that he has been working on. Today we are sharing one of Dave's poems excerpted from the book: Rhythm & Rhyme Grooveyard Author note:  * My thesis on the magic of the power of music. How it keeps us young and take...

Tuning Concepts

Tuning Concepts I would like to share some knowledge on tuning your drums the old fashioned way - by using your ears and a drum key. Yes, there are several tools available to help you tune a drum, but personally, I believe in learning the old school way before costly gadgets and tools were available. Besides, not everyone has the budget for one of these devices ($65-$150) or wishes to pack around another thing. Over the past 45 years I have developed a system that for me, has worked - and got me a ton of work in recording studios, because my drums sounded so darn good! Good sounding drums make me play better which in turn makes the band I am playing with sound as best as it can. I have always received positive comments on the sound of my drums and engineers rarely had any changes to make. I know the effort it takes to tune my drums well is worth it when onstage a guest vocalist turns around and says, "man those sound great!"  Rather than repeat what another drummer has alre...

Answering Your Q's

Answering Your Q's  Q:  What were the very first stage performances like for you? My first few times on stage I was pretty nervous, but after that it was a real rush.  To be on the stage playing music with good musicians, there is just nothing like it.  Once the nervousness is gone, it becomes a natural act.  For someone who is getting on stage for the first time, it is best to just concentrate on the music, not to worry about the people.   That is the hardest obstacle to get over, when you know everyone is watching you.  ~~~     Follow Dave:   on Amazon Subscribe to:   Brummet Media YouTube Channel   ~~~

A reader's review !

Did you know that Dave is also an author ?  Find this book at:  https://www.amazon.ca/Down-Road-Collection-Dave-Brummet-ebook/dp/B0DYS8DVS9 His family memoir recently received this amazing review: “ Some books quietly punch history in the chest. Yours does it across four generations and then politely waits its turn. Down the Road is not just a memoir collection. It is living evidence.  Maria leaves a remote Romanian village alone to marry a man she had never met. A family shaped by WW1, WW2, the Great Depression, politics, migration, parenting, and the Okanagan Valley soil itself. These are not anecdotes. They are primary sources with heartbeats. What really got me was the structure. Multiple voices. Multiple eras. One family spine holding it together. That choice alone turns this from “a memoir” into a legacy artifact. And closing it with your own reflection, Dave, admitting how these written memories changed your understanding of your own family, was quietly deva...

Drum carpets

Drum carpets There are a lot of drummers who battle the creeps. Bass drum creeping out on every thump, hi-hat stand is a similar issue - always needing herding back to its spot. Some use straps attached to their throne to tether the creeping things but this is not the answer. Simple fix: a drum rug. There are many available online that are just as good and come in different dimensions for your size.  I buy mine from the hardware store ( Home Hardware $85) in dimensions of 48" x 72" and it has lasted for over 20 years with little signs of wear. Made for outdoor entrances, they are rubber backed and very tough. Also they are very easy to clean either with a carpet shampooer, garden hose or pressure washer. Once I sprayed, soaped and scrubbed mine off at a carwash on the way home from a particular beer spilled night! Just make sure to leave it unrolled for a few days to dry out.  I mark my rack and pedal positions with black Gorilla brand duct tape, as it is very thick an...

Answering Your Q's

Answering Your Q's  Q: What were your earliest memories of drum influences? I started right after high school when I got my first drum-set and met some other musicians. I have been a big fan of Phil Collins & Genesis , Joey Kramer of Aerosmith and Neil Peart from Rush . But, really, I just had this drive to get on stage. I played drum-set for about nine years and a lot of different music such as rock, country, blues, reggae, R. & B.; even in a waltz band, ( Yawn ). When I saw Lenny Castro perform with Toto - that really turned me on to percussion. It made me think that, whoa, there are other things out there than just drums-et; you know, shakers & cowbells, timbales and congas. It wasn't long before I got my first set of congas, and not long after that I met David Thiaw, a Senegalese Drum Master, who became my mentor.  I have always respected his playing; what he can do with a djembe is just magical. He is a master with his hands.  Soon I was into tal...

Adrenaline Awareness

adren·aline 1. a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands when a person is frightened, angry, or excited that increases rates of blood circulation, breathing, and carbohydrate metabolism and prepares the body to react to danger. "Performing live really gets your adrenaline going" Adrenaline Awareness Adrenaline can affect your dynamics, tempo and endurance when playing drums more than you think and being in control of it can ensure your reputation as a tasty drummer. Simply being aware of what triggers your own adrenaline surges can help with the controlling of it. I try to check in on myself continuously to ensure my personal triggers are not rushing the tempos. When playing drums adrenaline rushes can be brought on by a few different things: Nervousness - If you are at all nervous before or while performing this will have an effect on your inner clock, making you perceive tempos differently. We tend to rush beginnings and fills when nervous and it can ruin the groove and...
