Answering Your Q's  Q:  Could you share some of the memorable experiences touring with bands? Well, I traveled around British Columbia and in Alberta as a member of various bands. We played bars, pubs, weddings, graduations, festivals and even won three battle of the bands competitions.  In order to make things last in a working band, you have to be able to get along with the same people on a daily basis. It is very important to get things out in the open, you know, communicating problems before they effect your performance. But even when things are rough, you know, when you are really sick or you have arguments in the band, when you start playing, those feelings tend to fade and the music takes you away.   You really have to be like a family.  I was younger then, and it was a great experience even though the accommodations were pretty rough and some of the places we played at were pretty dingy.  I would recommend to young musicians to see that ...

Drum Trash

Drum Trash As a drummer, sustainable entrepreneur and instrument inventor, I am forever finding uses for items often thrown away.  Hardware and stands: Keep everything! Spare parts can go a long way when fixing or customizing drum kits and percussion rigs. Be the guy that supplies spare parts to drummers in need. I am considered the local drum doctor and often help my students out with fixing their kits. Organize your collection of parts and pieces by storing them in clear containers (like clean peanut butter jars) so things can be readily found when needed.  ~~~     Follow Dave:   on Amazon Subscribe to:   Brummet Media YouTube Channel   ~~~

Answering Your Q's

Answering Your Q's  Q:  What resources do you recommend for drummers that could widen their experience of the realm of percussion? Definitely check out the group Stomp which uses everything from their bodies to brooms and water to create rhythm. One of my favourite bands is Vinx , which is entirely percussion and vocals.  Mickey Hart, the drummer for the Grateful Dead , went on this lifetime quest to learn about world drums and he has some great music too. His latest CD is called Superlingua , which merges musicians from around the world. I totally recommend his two books Planet Drum  and Drumming at the Edge of Magic to anyone who is interested in drums from around the world. Rusted Root is a great group that incorporates reggae and world beats in a funky style. Drum Prayer is a good group, too. But if you want to hear true Senegalese drum music try Dou Dou  Rose .
